Things to Remember

Always use a steel tape for accuracy - make sure the tape measure is straight and tight when you take your measurements

Always measure in millimetres (mm)

Measure all windows, even those that appear to be the same width and height

Don't forget the stacking height (height of blind when in the raised position) of a Roman Blind is approximately 300mm - see bottom of this page for more details

Do not take any deductions (i seek will do this for you)

Inside Mount

Measure Roman Blind Inside Mount

To measure a roman blind on the inside of your window frame you need at least 40mm depth for a flush mount. With this depth, the blind will go up and down without any obstruction.

Ensure you look for any knobs, handles, winders or the inner window frame that may obstruct the blind. If you have any obstructions you will need to mount your blind to the outside of your window frame.

Outside Mount

Measure Roman Blind Outside Mount

To measure a roman blind on the outside of your window frame measure the width from the edge of the architrave to the edge of the architrave at the top of your window frame, then add approximately 25mm for each side (if space permits) to give you better light control and privacy.

Measure the drop from the top of the architrave to 45mm past the bottom of the architrave for all elevated windows. If your window drops to the floor measure from the top of the architrave to the floor.

If you want to raise your roman blind above the window frame to maximise your view the stack height of a roman blind is approximately 300mm. Take this into consideration when measuring your drop (refer to the image below).
