Michael's Tips

Below are some simple tips from Michael Gubby (founder of iseekblinds) to make measuring your window even easier!

  • Always use a steel tape measure or a laser measure for accuracy - make sure the tape measure is straight and tight when you take your measurements.
  • Always measure in millimetres (mm)
  • Measure all windows, even those that appear to be the same width and height
  • Do not take any deductions (iseekblinds will do this for you)

How to Measure - Video

In short this video, Michael takes you through the simple process of measuring your windows for both an Inside and Outside mounted Honeycomb Blind

How to Measure - Inside & Outside Mount, Corner Window

Inside Mount

Inside Mount

Depth required for Flush Mounting
• Standard Lift cord 25mm Single Cell = 30mm
• All other Types & Sizes = 50mm

If you don’t have this much depth in your window frame you may still inside mount your blind, the minimum depth required is 30mm. In this install the blind will protrude out of the frame.

Ensure you look for any knobs, handles, winders or an inner window frame that may obstruct the blind. If you have any obstructions, you will need to mount your blind to the outside of your window frame.

IMPORTANT: Do not take any deductions as iseekblinds will do this for you.

Where to Measure - Inside Mount

Width

Measure across the top, centre and bottom of the window.
Take the smallest measurement.

Drop

Outside Mount

Outside Mount

To measure a window for an outside mount honeycomb blind you need to:

Measure the width from the edge of the architrave to the edge of the architrave at the top of your window frame. This measurement may be increased if you want your blinds to go past the opening on each side.

Measure the drop from the top of the architrave to the bottom of the architrave. This measurement may be increased if you want your blind to drop past the bottom of your window frame or to the floor.

Important: iseekblinds will not make any deductions for outside mounted blinds.

If you have a corner window where the blinds need to meet for maximum privacy, measure one blind as a through blind and one blind as a butt blind. When measuring the butt blind you need to deduct 55mm off the measurement.
