How to Measure

Michael's Tips
Below are some simple tips from Michael Gubby, founder of iseekblinds.com.au to help make measuring your windows that little bit easier!
  • From the front door, turn hard left. This becomes window 1 and then work clockwise. Repeat upstairs if required. Your blinds will be numbered as you order them making install a breeze.
  • Measure the top of the window frame where the blind is to be installed.
  • Buy a new high quality tape measure.  Stanley brand is less than $10.
  • In your open living areas, always try to fit your blinds inside the window frame.
  • In bedrooms, inside mount your sunscreen blind and outside mount your blockout blind.
  • If you’re mounting a single blind on the outside of your window frame, consider using our valance to hide the tube. It looks great and stops dust from collecting on top of the blind.
  • All blinds over 2 metres wide should be ordered with a spring assist.
  • If you live near the coast, order your blinds with stainless steel chains.

Things to Remember
  • Always use a steel tape for accuracy - make sure the tape measure is straight and tight when you take your measurements
  • Always measure in millimetres (mm)
  • Measure all windows, even those that appear to be the same width and height
  • Do not take any deductions (i seek will do this for you)

Inside Mount

Measure Roller Blinds Inside Mount

Generally inside mounted roller blinds are front rolled which means that the fabric rolls off the front of the roll tube to avoid any knobs, handles, winders or the inner window frame that may obstruct the blind (refer to the images below).

To measure a roller blind on the inside of your window frame you need at least 60mm depth for a flush mount.

Outside Mount

Measure Roller Blind Outside Mount

Generally all outside mounted roller blinds are back rolled to ensure the fabric stays tight to the architrave for maximum privacy and light control.

To measure a roller blind on the outside of your window frame measure the width from the edge of the architrave to the edge of the architrave at the top of your window frame.

Measure the drop from the top of the architrave to the bottom of the architrave. This measurement may be increased if you want your blind to drop past the bottom of your window frame or to the floor.

Multiple Roller Blinds Together (Sliding Doors)

The same applies for multiple blinds as per the instructions above however, in this case you can mount the brackets back to back. If your window frame has three equal panels measure the overall distance and just divide by three.

If your sliding door or window panels are not equal, measure each section one at a time. The combined measurements that you give should be the same as the overall width. Once again measure the drop as per the instruction above.

  • With your blind you will receive two brackets - One male (Figure 1)  and One female (Figure 2).
  • The male bracket is used for the chain control side of the blind (Figure 3). The female bracket is used on the neutral (non-control) end (Figure 4).

Follow these steps for an easy installation:

  • Hold the brackets to the place on your window frame where they are to be fixed.
  • Now use the four screws provided to fix the brackets to the window.
  • Install your blind into the male bracket first (Figure 1) which is also the chain end.
  • Before inserting the blind into the bracket - make sure the chain is hanging evenly from both sides.
  • Hold the chain end in position and move to the other end of the blind. Guide the metal spring-loaded pin (Figure 5) into the track of the female bracket until it clicks into position.
  • Once the blind is installed it should have 2mm movement from left to right between the brackets. If not – adjust your brackets according for secure fixing.
  • Lower your blind to the bottom of your window frame and then install your stop ball (Figure 6) on the chain at the point just before it enters the chain drive. This will ensure that your blind is not over rolled when lowering.
  • Install your safety cleat out of the reach of children. (Figure 7)

Follow these steps for an easy installation:

  • Hold the both brackets to the place on your window frame where they are to be fixed.  (Usually, level with the edge of your architrave)
  • With a pencil mark the two screw holes on each bracket.(Figure 12)
  • Drill a small pilot hole in the middle of each marking. (Figure 13)
  • Now use the four screws provided to fix the brackets to the window frame.
  • Install your blind into the male bracket which is also the chain end - make sure the chain is hanging evenly from both sides.
  • Hold the chain end in position and move to the other end of the blind. Guide the metal spring-loaded pin (Figure 11) into the track of the female bracket until it clicks into position.
  • Once the blind is installed it should have 2mm movement from left to right between the brackets. If not – adjust your brackets according for secure fixing.
  • Lower your blind to the bottom of your window frame and then install your stop ball (Figure 14) on the chain at the point just before it enters the chain drive. This will ensure that your blind is not over rolled when lowering.
  • Install your safety cleat out of the reach of children. (Figure 15)

Your blind is now installed

To remove your blind

  • Two remove the blind; turn the large clear wheel at the neutral end (Figure 16 - Inside Mount & Figure 17 - Outside Mount) anti clockwise.
  • This action will slide the metal pin inward and the blind will slide out of the bracket.
